OMNI is the only flow computer manufacturer who designs, develops, and supports hardware and software in a single, centralized location. In-house OMNI experts are responsible for hardware and software design and development. We have an exceptional quality assurance program.
In-house product development ensures quality products, on-time delivery, and the front-line technical support on which you can depend. We use only the highest quality, industrial and automotive grade hardware to interface to our secure, factory-programmed firmware – never consumer-grade electronics that are not robust enough to perform in an industrial environment. Our customers are assured that every electronic component is selected for its performance, reliability, and longevity.
When flow computers are field-programmable, risk is introduced. Traceability to any metrological approval that a device may have previously obtained, such as OIML D31, can be voided during project application programming by the manufacturer or integrator. Even a simple audit of firmware revision and checksum for compliance may not reveal the full extent of changes that could require the complete verification of all the flow computer’s calculations and functions. OMNI flow computers offer full traceability – from factory to operation – so every change can be traced to its originating source and time.
Each major component of the OMNI—hardware and software—undergoes continuous development and improvement based on technology improvements and customer requirements. Since the OMNI was introduced in 1991, every module has been upgraded, revised, or reengineered several times.
Most of our customers don’t want to be software programmers, so OMNI takes full responsibility for software development and implementation from development to installation. Designed and developed in-house, OMNI’s embedded software programming and ISO 9001 quality testing provide a risk-free resource for your project. OMNI is not dependent on third-party software vendors or contract programmers.
Flow computers with a programmable architecture potentially enable a programmer to compromise or modify the manufacturer’s calculation results. OMNI separates user- or integrator-configurable, operational, embedded firmware options— not programmed from a PC— from critical custody software processes and algorithms. Because the OMNI’s source code can’t be altered or edited, your operations and measurement results can never be compromised.
Our ongoing technical innovations includes a commitment to supporting our products for the duration of their lifecycle. By design, today’s OMNI is built to be backward-compatible with most earlier versions. Our older-model flow computers never become outdated or obsolete, because they can be upgraded at any time to meet current specifications— simply upgrade the hardware and firmware you need.
If the OMNI flow computer can be described in a single word, that word is “reliable.” Reliability is the cornerstone of measurement. Without it, all the appeal of new technology and attractive packaging disappears. With millions of your dollars on the line every day, the reliability of your flow computer is crucial. We build our flow computers to meet the needs of measurement first.
Over the past quarter century, the OMNI has proven itself to be an extraordinarily rugged and reliable instrument. These are virtues prized by our customers and undisputed by our competitors.
Security in measurement is key. With separate main and communications processors and features such as password time-outs, MAC filtering, and ping blocking, the OMNI is built with network security in mind.
All OMNI firmware is covered by a single revision number and checksum. These two numbers are all you need to verify exactly what’s in your OMNI’s firmware. For example, if API MPMS Ch. API 11.1 (2007) is selected as your volume correction calculation, you can be sure that’s exactly what will be used as the basis of calculation. You can discuss with our security specialists the security software methods that OMNI has adopted to mitigate your operational risks when configuring a flow computer.
The OMNI is also versatile. Whether you’re measuring gas or liquid, in metric or U.S. customary units, with flow meter types ranging from turbine, PD, and ultrasonic to DP, Venturi, and Coriolis, the OMNI is ready for measurement.
The OMNI’s highly efficient firmware has been exceeding all calculation and processing speed requirements for 25 years. The operating system and application software of the OMNI flow computer operate so fast that it is measuring flow in less than one second after a restart or power interruption.
An OMNI flow computer’s embedded calculations cannot be changed or edited. Its firmware configuration, not programming, provides full traceability to product approvals. Only the OMNI gives you the assurance that what we implement at the factory is what is being used in the field for your measurement and applications. OMNI’s compliance with all major metrological standards and regulations, including OIML and the EU-based WELMEC, is always assured.
Accuracy is a requirement. While a certain threshold of accuracy must be met by all flow computer manufacturers to comply with measurement standards, the OMNI is engineered to calculate to a greater resolution (64-bit double precision mathematics) than the empirical API data and API MPMS Ch. 12.2 require.
When your project’s lifetime is expected to span decades, you need a flow computer that will continue to be available and be supported. Thanks to superior design and rugged construction, OMNIs around the world, in a variety of operating conditions, have been in continuous operation for decades, despite documented cases of exposure to lightning strikes, hurricanes, flooding, even a vehicular crash.
At OMNI, we understand that buying a flow computer is an investment. An individual flow computer device is responsible for reliably metering millions of dollars’ worth of hydrocarbon fluid every day.
As your partner in custody transfer, OMNI has the responsibility of providing you with the most dependable flow computer at the lowest project lifetime cost. This flow computer will not be discontinued or obsoleted in just a few years. OMNI flow computers are supplied to last the lifetime of your project and can be upgraded to go far beyond.
OMNI stands behind the quality of our flow computers because our success relies on your success.
OMNI's products are internationally certified to IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Standards by the Nederlands Meet Instituut (NMi), and to Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Underwriter Laboratories (UL) by TÜV Rheiland of North America.
OMNI flow computers are built to last. Why? Thanks to an easy migration path for both hardware and firmware, OMNI allows you to keep up with measurement and communication trends and standards without the need to purchase a new flow computer or incur hidden engineering costs every few years. With an OMNI, you simply upgrade internal components as needed and minimal field rewiring may be required to simplify installation.
The ever-changing world of risks and uncertainties, however, makes the electronics industry increasingly challenging. External factors, such as limited availability and obsolescence of electronic components withdrawn from the market by manufacturers, can affect product longevity.
There is more to being responsible with your money than just paying a low commodity-based price for an unproven product. It is not enough to spend less—you must spend wisely.
The consistent performance of the rugged, reliable OMNI delivers reduced operating expenses for your project.
